Cary Grant - The Ultimate Movie Star

With so many celebrities nowadays aiming for their 15 minutes of notoriety and nothing else, we often harken back to Hollywood’s Golden Age, when stars were famous for a reason - for their talent, their grace, their utter and fascinating mystique. Cary Grant is one our favourites from the period - not only was he a talented actor with a variety of skills (did you know he’d trained in a circus troupe in his youth?), but he absolutely oozed style, elegance and sophistication.

What makes us love him even more is that despite all this, he never took himself too seriously, and was known for his sense of humour and impeccable comic delivery. He once famously quipped that everyone wanted to be Cary Grant - including him. He never forgot his origins, either, continuing to visit his hometown of Bristol, England, throughout his life - albeit staying at the Royal Hotel (now the Bristol Marriott Royal), one of the finest Bristol hotels.

Check out our playlist of great Cary Grant moments in film, then vote for your favourite performance - although we know it can be hard to choose!
